Union leaders bangladesh released

Dear friends,

We're pleased to be able to tell you that yesterday-evening (Dhaka time) all 3 BIGUF staff members were released, and we've just got confirmed that Mishu Mushrefa, also is out of jail. We are still trying to find out if they are facing any charges, but for now want to thank you all for your support. The unions in Bangladesh also pass on their thanks.

As reported earlier, the unrests started at FS factory, the FS Sweater Factory in Dhaka on Saturday, where workers had gone on strike to demand the release of three workers who had been arrested on trumped-up charges for demanding fairer piece-rates. Following intervention from among others the GAP these three workers have also been released (on wednesday).

An unknown number of workers, including union members, remain under arrest. According to the media, most factories resumed production yesterday amid tight security.

We will keep in touch with our partner organisations on the ground and hope we can count on you again to support them in this very difficult situation.
