Dear Friends,
16 Jul 2002 - For those of you following up on the tragic fire
at Shree Jee International, the footwear factory in Agra, India,
where 42 people died, we would like to share the contact information
for the Mumbai-based exporters which bought goods from Shree
Jee and sent them on to Europe. Exporter information is useful
to share with the European brand name companies who are denying
any connection with Shree Jee. Remind them that they are responsible
for working conditions throughout their supply chains -- even
if they are working through the exporters listed below, they
still have a responsibility to ensure that those who produce
their goods are doing so in an environment that is safe and
healthy and where labor rights are respected.

CEC reports that they have heard of two more names from the
surviving workers - Jishu Exports and Chandan Exports, also
based in Mumbai, but have no further information on them.
Meanwhile, some people have reported having difficulties getting
through on the fax numbers provided in our earlier appeal. In
general, we suggest keep trying -- the lines are not so reliable
-- or send your letters by mail.
