09 aug 2001, Brutal Murder of Bangladesh Trade Union Activist
All of us involved in TIE-Asia knew Iqbal well he was generous,
outspoken against privatisation and worked hard to form democratic
unions in Bangladesh. Anton Markus, Arokia Dass and Robert Reid
were especially close to him. We all spent time with him in Bangladesh
in April.
It has come as a big shock to us.
In Solidarity,

To All comrades and friends of Asian Pacific Workers Solidarity
Links (APWSL),
Labour Movements, Friends,
VERY VERY SAD NEWS.
On 2nd August Iqbal Majumder the national facilitator of APWSL
Bangladesh was brutally shot dead. At 8-30 pm, he was on his way
home after days work, after crossing 1000 yds from the office he
was shot from point blank range. He was alone. Passerby people brought
him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.
The identity of Iqbal was :-
General Secretary Bangladesh Jatiyo Sramik Federation, (BJSF).
General Secretary Bangladesh Textile workers & employees Federation.
President Jute twine workers & employees Federation.
National Facilitator. APWSL Bangladesh.
National Secretary Ganatantric Majdoor Party (Democratic workers
party).
The dastardly act of terrorist killing of Iqbal Majumder is part
of total political & social unrest prevailing in the country
instigated by the capitalist to fish in the troubled water.
Iqbal Majumder was a pioneer in the anti privatization and anti
de-regulation movement, as such the capitalists needed to eliminate
him through their agents.
Please circulate the message and request all components of APWSL
to stage protests in each country to ask Government of Bangladesh
to bring the killers of Iqbal into the book and give them exemplary
punishment.
Yours in solidarity,
Tafazzul Hussain
President BJS
