Update on Global Social Compliance Programme

 Update on Global Social Compliance Programme The world's largest retailers -Tesco, Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Metro announced the formation of the Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP) - supposedly to encourage a unified approach to promoting good working conditions in the supply chain.

The GSCP represents business latest proposal to address sweatshop conditions in the global supply chains of multinational corporations, but with an aggregate annual sale of over $500 billion this initiative potentially shadows all others. In this e-update we will first describe the main characteristics of this initiative  background, governance structure, work-plan and code of conduct. In the final section we will give our views and provide a critique of the GSCP.
