On 2 November, two garment workers from Asia started a speaker tour through Germany, organised by the German CCC. In spite of intimidations and arrests of labour rights activists in Bangladesh they speak out about the appalling working conditions they witnessed in supplier factories of German discounters such as Lidl and Aldi.
Working conditions in those factories include labour rights violations such as forced unpaid overtime, starvation wages, and safety and health issues.
The speaker tour takes place from 2 to 19 November 2010 in the frame of the „Rights for People, Rules for Business“ campaign, and in the run up to the „International Day for Rights for People, Rules for Business“ on 10 November.
They are accompanied by a researcher who investigated the working conditions in garment factories in Bangladesh, and a labour rights lawyer.
