NEWSLETTER 12, MAY 2000

Editorial

Welcome to the 12th edition of the international newsletter. Find in this newsletter reports on the campaigns in Europe; some of the actions, debates and educational activities that are being developed. You will by no means find a complete account of what's going on in the Clean Clothes Campaigns in nine European countries, but you will get an impression by reading the various articles. Also in this issue, the ongoing pilot projects on independent monitoring. Some companies have deserved some extra attention as they are certainly not doing the right thing yet! The concept of Clean Clothes Communities, in the US, the Netherlands and France might provide some new food for local campaigning.

IRENE, together with the Clean Clothes Campaign, organised a seminar on Workers' education and information on Codes of Conduct of which an abstract can be found in this newsletter. Europe is preparing for the European Football Championship and so is the Clean Clothes Campaign. A separate issue of the newsletter, on labour conditions in the sportswear industry, the sponsors, and the actions that we will organise around this major sports event, will be available shortly from the Clean Clothes Campaign international secretariat.

Remember - This newsletter is free of charge, and we encourage readers to reprint or distribute any information found within.
