Friday, 07 September 2007 12:45
The magistrate of the Bangalore Court has decided to postpone the hearing in the court case against the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) and the India Committee of the Netherlands (ICN) to September 24, 2007.

The CCC and ICN are accused of “cyber crime”, “acts of racist and xenophobic nature” and “criminal defamation” by the Indian jeans manufacturer Fibres and Fabrics International and its subsidiary Jeans Knit Pvt Ltd (FFI/JKPL), producing jeans for companies including G-Star, Armani, RaRe, Guess, Gap and Mexx. In 2006 the CCC and ICN have launched a campaign to draw attention to severe labour rights violations at FFI/JKPL, including the gagging of local labour rights organizations that were informed about labour rights violations at the factory by workers in 2005. To date FFI/JKPL has refused to engage with the local labour groups to resolve the outstanding labour issues. Seven staff members of the CCC and ICN have been ordered to appear in court in person on September 24, 2007. If they fail to appear, the magistrate declared that an international non-bailable arrest warrant will be issued. The two organisations will be going to the High Court to contest thecase, both procedurally as well as on contents.
