The Public Eye on Davos Awards

Oct 2004,

Every year in January, the World Economic Forum (WEF) gathers together its business leaders and the political and world media elite to discuss current global political issues and set trends in the future development of global business. The international NGO coalition "The Public Eye on Davos" has been present at the same time as the WEF in Davos/Switzerland since 2000, to critically monitor and to challenge their activities at an alternative event.

Next January, the Berne Declaration and Pro Natura - Friends of the Earth Switzerland together with other NGOs will be hosting another"Public Eye" event. The highlight will be the award ceremony, which will be held on the evening of 25 January 2005 in Davos. Candidates for the awards are companies who have excelled in socially and environmentally irresponsible behaviour.

With this letter we are inviting you to nominate potential award winners. If one of your nominated companies is chosen for an award, a spokesperson from your organisation will be invited to Davos with expenses paid. There you will have the opportunity to present your case to an international audience, and generate wide media publicity. The nomination categories and information on the publication and choice of the award winners can be found on the information sheet accompanying this letter. Please use the nomination form for the presentation of your case. The deadline for nominations is 31 October 2004. Please note that we are not only interested in fully documented nominations, but are also keen to hear recommendations of suitable cases. The information sheet, containing more detailed information on the categories, process and eventual ceremony, and nomination form are availabe at the bottom of this message.

Of course we would like to welcome you as a participant of the next "Public Eye". You will find detailed information on the programme from October 2004 on http://www.evb.ch/index.cfm?set_lang=2&folder_id=111

With our thanks for your participation and best wishes,
