PRESS RELEASE CCC-SPAIN BUYS SHARES IN INDITEX

SETEM, as the coordinator of the Clean Clothes Campaign in Spain, buys shares in INDITEX in order to guarantee socially responsible policies.

For the first time in Spain an NGO buys shares in a company in order to apply pressure within a Shareholders Meeting.

Clean Clothes Campaign has bought 120 shares (equivalent to 293,505 pesetas, 1,764 Euros) in the Spanish textile multinational Inditex within the framework of the "Made in Human Rights" campaign. This campaign demands more transparency from the principle clothing manufacturers in Spain regarding the working conditions of the people, primarily in the South, who make their clothes.

With this purchase, SETEM-the Clean Clothes Campaign intends to be present at the next Shareholders' Meeting where it will be able to ask questions regarding the social responsibility of this important Spanish company that is expanding internationally. It also intends to rally support from shareholders sympathetic to the issue.

We would like to make clear that this share purchase by SETEM-the Clean Clothes Campaign is in no way motivated by the possibility of speculative gains. It is, instead, intended to be used to demand guarantees from the member companies of the Inditex Group: Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull&Bear, Beshka and Stradivarius, to respect the human rights of their subcontracted employees in the South. Any financial benefits accrued from the purchase will be used to finance further research by the Clean Clothes Campaign.
