May 2003, labour law review and other resources
Published by Asia Monitor Resource Centre, April 2003: Asia-Pacific
Labour Law Review: Workers' rights for the new century.
This book is the only comprehensive review of labour law available
concerning the Asia Pacific region. It covers 30 countries specifically
on how labour law affects workers. The book is no quick read,
consisting of almost 400 A4-size pages; each chapter deals with
a country/region. It is more than simply a review of labour law
as laid down in statutes; it presents labour unions and activist
responses to labour law, its effects on the unorganised workers
who make up the largest labour sector, and what it means in their
daily lives. The contributors are specialists in labour law in
specific countries, ranging from academe, the legal profession,
trade unions, and NGOs. These writers have detailed major labour
legislation/regulation in the following six areas: workers welfare,
labour rights, trade union rights, occupational health and safety,
gender and discrimination at work. Each author outlines a country's
history and political context, key labour laws, changes over the
past two years, and major activities involving labour.
The book costs US$38.00 and can be ordered online using all major
