Where can I find information on specific companies and their
labour practices?
What we know on specific companies is publicly available from our
website, where you can also find links to other organisations campaigning
on this issue. We believe that increased transparency about the
conditions under which clothes are produced is essential. The CCC
will continue to campaign on this issue in the future.
If you cannot find information about the company you are looking
for, you can always contact the company directly.
Today, several companies publish social reports. However, these
reports differ widely in quality. An international standard is
being developed for ethical reporting, the so-called Global Reporting
Initiative (GRI). This gives companies an outline with all the
items that should be covered in the report. Companies can then
have an auditor verify if they have provided information on all
the items listed by the GRI, in the manner required by GRI. More
extensive social reporting can increase transparency, and it's
also a good thing that there is a standardized process for social
reports. However, it is important to remember that a GRI audit
will not verify if the information is correct or not!
There is an increasing number of 'ethical rating' initiatives
out there, all trying to provide consumers with lists comparing
the ethical performance of companies. Bear in mind that most of
these compare company policies, rather then their practices on
the ground.
