Correspondence with Triumph International.

The Swiss CCC has send a letter to the headoffice of Triumph Internationial on january 3 2001, requesting them to withdraw from Burma. On january 8 Triuph send the following reply (own translation):

Dear Mr. Indermuhle,

Concerning your letter, we find that your reproach is not aimed at Triumph International, but against the political and social situation in Myanmar in general. I would like to inform you that because of this situation we are not capable to decide about the dismissal of over 1000 co-workers within one week.

This doesn't correspond with the legal nor the social-political responsibility towards our co-workers, who can't be held responsible for the political situation in this country.
Therefore we see it as our task to not involve our company in Myanmar in the current problems, but to guarantee the best possible labour conditions.
