A short reaction on the Verite Independent Audit Report on Formosa Evergreen, producer for Adidas, from Ingeborg Wick, from the German Clean Clothes Campaign:

Dear friends,

Recently Mr. David Husselbee, adidas World Director for Environmental and Social Affairs, communicated to us the monitoring report of the US company "Verité" on its Formosa and Evergreen supplier plants in El Salvador and his respective comments. We understand that adidas is sending this report out to other interested persons/organisations too.

The German CCC has proposed a meeting early October.

The first rough opinion of some German CCC member organisations on the verité report was that

a) big problems at Formosa/Evergreen have continued over the months in spite of improvements maintained by adidas, but that

b) singular spot-checks by auditing companies like Verité (for background information see homepage <www.verite.org>) cannot replace an institutionalized monitoring system with the participation of NGOs and unions in the South and the North such as the one envisaged in the CCC Code.
