The overall aim of the Better Bargain campaign is improved working conditions in the garment supply chains of the Giant retailers.
CCC believes this can be achieved by:
- Improving labour standards implementation: Push Giant retailers to improve labour conditions in their supply chains, increase action on code compliance and join credible multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Pushing for living wages: Have Giant retailers make sure that everyone is paid a living wage throughout their supply chain, and support living wage initiatives in the garment sector such as the Asian Floor Wage Campaign
- Improving purchasing practices: Pushing for changes in giant retailers' purchasing practices, also through regulation where possible. Currently, the way retailers do business with their suppliers can be a significant obstacle to improving working conditions in garment supply chains.
- Supporting worker organising: Through a range of activities within the scope of the Better Bargain campaign the CCC aims to support worker organising and worker solidarity throughout Giant retailer supply and retail chains.
With the Better Bargain campaign the CCC is also aiming for
- Increased transparency: Get Giant retailers to disclose their production countries and suppliers and efforts towards improvements of labour conditions.
- Encourage consumers to take sustainability and respect for workers’ rights into account and change their consumption patterns.
- Public policy advances: Push governments in production countries to pass and implement labour legislation and in consumer countries to ensure that Giant retailers respect workers' rights throughout their supply chains.
- Building alliances: Contribute to and help build a wider human rights, development and environmental movement that is campaigning on Giant retailers in order to increase pressure on the Giants.
