| Out now: Spanish Book on garment industry and the Permanent People's Tribunal in Brussels The Clean Clothes Campaign in Spain had (co-) organized two fora last year. One in Barcelona in March 1998, on clean clothes and the second, in May 1998 was the People's Permanent Tribunal in Brussels. They recently published a book on both conferences: 1. North-South forum on new proposals for dignity in the garment industry This part tackles problems of globalization, the role of the ILO (International Labor Organization), and labor conditions in the garment industry in the South and Europe, as well as the problem of child labor. There is also a chapter about independent codes of monitoring. 2. Permanent People's Tribunal: Workers' Rights and consumers in the garment industry The second part of the book consists of a report of the Permanent People's Tribunal. There are descriptions of the cases against Nike, H&M, Levi Strauss, Otto Versand, C&A, Walt Disney and Adidas and of course the final verdict of the jury. Before you order this, you should know that THE BOOK IS IN SPANISH! We hope that there is someone at everyone's office who speaks this language because the book is full of information on labor conditions and the big TNC's in the garment industry. The costs are 11 euros for the book, and 5 euros for postage. Title: Deshaciendo la madeja: testimonios sobre la explotacion laboral en el sector textil For a copy of the book you can write to: |
