Exhibition:
The Clothes She Wears
The Clothes She Wears is a fashion
collection with a difference: Instead
of showing the latest models by well-known
designers, this original collection
will show the actual clothes worn by
women who work in the garment industry.
Have you ever wondered what kinds of
things the women who sew our clothes
wear? What does it feel like to work
long hours making garments in a factory
or at home? Inspired by the influential
social sculpture movement,
Siobhan Wall invited women from eight
different countries worldwide to send
her the clothes they wear for this unusual,
thought-provoking exhibition. On display
will be a selection of outfits, including
skirts, shoes, trousers, handbags and
scarves from Lesotho, Sri Lanka, Australia,
Britain,Thailand, The Netherlands, Bulgaria
and Mexico.
Stories about the womens lives
will be on display and a free accompanying
catalogue will also be available.
This exhibition was produced in collaboration
with colleagues from The Clean Clothes
Campaign and other organisations which
support workers in the garment industry.
The exhibition was funded by HIVOS,
Den Haag.
