Women Garment Workers History on Display

Women Working Worldwide (WWW) has produced an exhibition for the Labour Behind the Label Network on women workers in the garment industry. The exhibition, a re-vamped version of an exhibit done by WWW in 1990 for the Labour History Museum in Manchester, opened March 18th to a large crowd. While the original exhibition had quite a strong historical content, this time, in addition to three historical panels, the exhibition focuses on more recent developments in the garment industry. Information is provided on conditions of employment in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as well as the experience of homeworkers in places such as the UK. The exhibition also looks at women organising and company codes of conduct and includes a panel on Labour Behind the Label.

The exhibition is quite flexible; since groups of panels can be removed, and therefore should be appropriate for various audiences and different types of events. For further information about renting or adapting the exhibition please contact WWW.
