Letter from Director of Euro 2000 Tournament on
CCC campaign
8 December 1999
Dear Mr Lambert,
In response to your latest communication and on the basis of information
received from the UEFA, I am pleased to inform you of the following.
A meeting was held recently between representatives of sportswear
manufacturers, the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industries
(WFSGI), ISL (*) and EURO 2000 to discuss ways to make progress
over issues raised by the Clean Clothes Campaign.
Firstly, goods produced under ISL licence for EURO 2000 undertake
to respect the WFSGI code of conduct.
Secondly, the UEFA and ISL have demanded that company codes of
conduct and the Code of Labour Practices for the Production of Goods
licensed by the FIFA be explicitly included in contracts signed
between sponsors and ISL, which constitutes considerable progress
compared to the 1998 World Cup.
This demonstrates the willingness of the UEFA and Euro 2000 to
take into consideration the basic rights of children.
Yours sincerely,
Alain Courtois
Director of Euro 2000 Tournament
(*)ISL is the company handling marketing for Euro 2000.
